No need to worry says #Bangkok Immigration Commander.

He confirmed that foreign tourists and expats do not need to carry their passports with them at all times.

He said that tourists can of course leave their passports locked in their hotel safe and enjoy their holiday in Thailand without worrying about the need to carry their original passport.

Deputy Commander Voravat also said that for expats living here, a Thai driving license or photocopy of your passport can be used as a form of identification.

However, if Immigration Police suspect an individual to be overstaying in Thailand or being involved in illegal activity, then the individual would be required to produce their original passport promptly.

Deputy Commander Voravat referred to Section 58, which reads as follows:

Any alien who has no lawful document for entering the Kingdom under section 12(1);….under this Act; and has no identification in accordance with the Law on Alien registration, is considered to have entered the Kingdom in violation of the Act.

Entering or staying in Thailand without holding a valid passport and visa/extension is subject a fine and possible prison sentence.

“Making all foreigners in Thailand carry their original passports with them would be very difficult.”
“It’s about being reasonable and using common sense”

“But if we think a foreigner is involved in illegal activity then we will of course need to see their original passport, this is normal”, said Deputy Commander Voravat.

Deputy Commander Voravat is eager to avoid further misunderstandings and miscommunication regarding immigration matters and is happy to work with Thaivisa.com in the future in order to provide correct information to foreign tourists and the wider expat community in Thailand.

Thaivisa.com thanks  Deputy Commander Voravat for his interview and taking time to clarify the situation.

The idea of foreigners being able to get a copy of their passport officially stamped by Immigration is currently not an option. However, it is always a good idea to have a copy of your passport with you at all times while in Thailand.

Immigration clarifies rules on foreigners carrying ID

Aliens must now carry valid ID at all times, report within 24 hours

Following yesterday’s news regarding the requirement for foreigners in Thailand to carry ID with them at all times, Thaivisa.com and local Immigration offices have been inundated with messages and comments from foreigners concerned about how they may be affected by this news.
In order to seek fruther clarification about this, Thaivisa.com has today met with Pol.Col. Thanasak Vongluekiat, Superintendent of Prachuap Khirikhan and Phetchaburi Immigration.

Pol.Col. Thanasak confirmed the following:

1. By law, all tourists and expats nationwide are required to carry their original passports with them at all times. There is no exception to this. Failure to carry your original passport may result in a 2,000 THB fine. The reason behind this is that Immigration needs to keep track of overstayers and foreign criminals who may be staying illegally in the country.

2. The information provided at an Immigration meeting yesterday was unclear. The correct information, which has always been the case, is that no other forms of identification are acceptable. This includes any other form of photo ID, such as a Thai/foreign driving license or a photocopy of your passport.

3. Immigration does not provide any kind of ‘stamp’ verification on a photocopy of a passport as announced at the meeting yesterday. Therefore, you are required to keep your original passport with you at all times as per point #1 above.

Thaivisa.com would like to thank Pol.Col. Thanasak Vongluekiat and his staff for taking time out of their busy schedule in order to clarify this.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hua Hin Immigration is from today enforcing the existing rule that foreigners are required to carry a valid photo ID at all times.

At a meeting with Hua Hin Immigration and municipality, Thaivisa.com was informed of the news about the immediate enforcement regarding the requirements for foreigners - both tourists and expats - to carry valid photo ID at all times. Thaivisa has learned that Immigration is likely to enforce this nationwide.

Valid ID's are:

- Thai Drivers License
- Passport original
- Copy of passport verified and stamped by Hua Hin Immigration

Penalty:
Failure to carry valid ID as above is 2,000 Baht.

24-hour reporting

Hua Hin Immigration is from today also enforcing the requirements that you and your landlord (condominium owner, house owner etc) must report to Immigration within 24 hours of moving in to a new address. On your arrival card you already reported your place of stay, and if that changes you need to visit Immigration and report your new address. This applies to both tourists and expats.

Here are the two Immigration forms to be used, they can be downloaded from Thaivisa here:

Here is the TM28 form that must be used from now in Hua Hin, and nationwide if/when enforced:
http://www.thaivisa....-over-24-hours/

There is also another reporting obligation, and this applies when a foreigner visits another province and stays for more than 48 hours. In that case the reporting of the new address must be provided to the police, or the immigration, within 48 hours.

Here is the form to be used by house master or owner or possessor of the residence where foreigners reside:

Chinatown Yaowarat, #Bangkok

Chinatown is located in one of the oldest areas of Bangkok.
It represents the resettlement of Chinese on the Western bank of Chao Phraya river
after Rama I moved the capital of the kingdom from Thonburi to Rattanakosin.
From there Chinese traders operated maritime junk trade between (Siam)
and China throughout the Rattanakosin period. By the end of 1891,

King Rama V had ordered the construction of many roads,
including Yaowarat Road. Chinatown does not consist of only Yaowarat Road,
but also includes others such as: Charoen Krung Road, Mungkorn Road,
Songwat Road, Songsawat Road, Chakkrawat Road, etc.

Yaowarat’s Sam Peng Market is the center of the area.
The path of the road is said to resemble a dragon’s curvy body,
making it an auspicious location for business. There are many shops selling gold,
garments, textiles, stationery, souvenirs, second-hand parts
and equipment, electric goods, computer parts, antiques,
imported musical instruments and local delicacies.

Land prices around Yaowarat Road have always been one of the most expensive
in Bangkok and Thailand due to limited land which is mostly owned
by prominent Thai-Chinese families who are often leaders
in their respective industries.

Yaowarat Road  in Samphanthawong district is home to Bangkok’s Chinatown,
which is centred on Sam Pheng Lane. Chinatown’s Sam Pheng Market
is an old business centre noted for a post-WW II visit
by the young king Ananda Mahidol. Modern Chinatown now covers a large area
around Yaowarat and Charoen Krung Road.

There are many small streets and alleys full of shops
and vendors selling all types of goods. It has been the main centre for trading
by the Chinese community since they moved from their old
site some 200 years ago to make way for the construction
of Wat Phra Kaew, the Grand Palace.

Nearby is the Phahurat or Indian market, and the area is bordered
by the Chao Phraya River to the south. Yaowarat Road is also well known for
its sheer variety of food, and at night turns into a large “food street”
that draws tourists and locals from all over the city.

"NETWORKING'

Networks and Network Building

Networks are social structures made up of nodes of individuals, groups, or organizations that are consciously or unconsciously connected to one another by common interests or attributes.

Network building is a process that fosters, cultivates, and develops these connections and relationships in order to maximize the potential for people to actualize a shared intention.
The use of social media in network building dramatically increases the breadth and scale of networks, allowing for innovative and sometimes unpredictable outcomes to emerge.

Three types of social change networks have been identified: the connectivity (emergent) network which connects people to allow easy flow of and access to information and transactions; the alignment network which aligns people to develop and spread an identity and a collective value proposition; and the production (action) network which fosters joint action for specialized outcomes by aligned people.
