Araya Hargate does #Thailand proud in Cannes

.

Popular British-Thai actress Araya “Chompoo” A Hargate wrapped her chic maternity moments on the red carpet at the 70th Cannes Film Festival with compliments pouring in from fans as well as the world's fashion bibles.

Vogue.com wrote: “With celebrities from all over the world vying for attention, it can be hard to stand out – but there’s no fashion challenge that Araya “Chompoo” Hargate can’t handle.”

RedCarpet-FashionAwards.com added further praise, writing: “Araya’s look was all about bringing drama to the carpet, from the oversized peplum, to the sultry sheer skirt, the opera gloves and Chopard high jewellery collection pieces. This is a worthy look for Cannes..”

The actress was also selected as having one of the best looks at Cannes 2017 by Vanity Fair.

For her final appearance on the red carpet for the screening of “The Meyerowitz Stories” on Sunday night, Araya stunned the crowd by showing off her five-month baby bump in a couture gown created by French atelier, Alexis Mabille complete with a quilted red cape that trailed behind her. The brand ambassador for L’Oreal Paris (Thailand) was made up on the theme “Flawless Finale”.

Chopard’s diamonds completed the look and ensured Araya looked every bit the star.
Araya has certainly turned heads at this year’s festival thanks to impeccable styling and close collaboration with fashion magazine, L’Officiel Thailand.

For the premiere of “Ismael’s Ghosts”, Araya wore a white Ralph and Russo dress with a silk cape covered with crystals and ostrich feathers.

For “Loveless”, Araya was attired in a black Olivier Theysken gown that was the perfect complement to the sapphire and diamonds of Chopard’s Red Carpet Collection.

And Araya’s happiness at walking down the staircase with her husband Visrut “Nott” Rangsisingpipat was evident as she brought an added glow to the voluminous gown in fuchsia by Zuhair Murad paired with Chopard’s diamond-drop earrings to the premiere of “120 Beats Per Minute”.

HÀ NỘI — Jordan Vogt-Roberts, director of the new Hollywood blockbuster Kong: Skull Island, was voted Việt Nam’s next tourism ambassador by a 13-member council under the Ministry of Culture and Sport.
The American director is expected to be officially appointed next Monday. In an earlier exchange, Vogt-Roberts said he was happy to represent the country and promote its image to the international art community.
Kong: Skull Island’ is a joint US$190 million production between two major film powerhouses: Legendary and Warner Bros. The movie is expected to be a smash hit at the box office, attracting millions of viewers worldwide. Serving as our next tourism ambassador, Jordan Vogt-Roberts will bring about great coverage and improve the image of Việt Nam globally,” the council said.
In numerous videos featuring the making of the US blockbuster, the director and the film cast did not hide their admiration for Việt Nam’s pristine scenery, landscapes and local hospitality.
  .
“I don’t think most of the world knows how gorgeous Việt Nam looks. You see shapes and landscapes that you didn’t know existed in ages. It’s beautiful,” said Vogt-Roberts in a Youtube video.
  .
“And you just fall in love with the culture, the people and everything about this country.  And the places there, they are just spectacular,” he said.
  .
2016 Oscar Best Actress winner Brie Larson plays war photojournalist Mason Weaver. She said that “Việt Nam in particular is very special because it has never been captured on film before in this way.”
  .
“Promoting the image of a country and its tourism potential through cinema is important. A successful movie can inspire audiences to travel to its filming locations,” said deputy head of General Department of Tourism Ngô Hoài Chung.
.
“There was already a similar case in Việt Nam. After the success of Vietnamese box office hit Tôi thấy hoa vàng trên cỏ xanh (Yellow flowers on green grass), central province of Phú Yên, where the movie was filmed, has seen a surge in the number of visitors."
  ,
Chung also said steps have already been taken to preserve Kong: Skull Island filming locations for future plans.
  ,
Directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts, Kong: Skull Island was shot in three provinces of Ninh Bình, Quảng Ninh and Quảng Bình. It is the biggest Hollywood movie ever to be filmed in Việt Nam.

A night at the Thai Oscars

.

"Dao Khanong" and "Khun Phan" sweep the Subhanahongsa awards

In a first for the Thai film industry, an independent movie directed by a female filmmaker swept three of the national film awards including the coveted best film and best director prizes on Sunday night, proving that small films are able of outdoing big-budget mainstream productions.
.
“Dao Khanong” (“By The Time It Gets Dark”) by Anocha Suvichakorn- pong also took home the best-editing prize at the 26th Subhanahongsa awards held at Bangkok’s KBank Siam Pic-Ganesha theatre. The film triumphed against nominees who included the commercial hit “Fanday … Fan Kun Khae Wan Diaw” (“One Day”) and another indie by a female director, “Mahasamut Lae Susan” (“The Island Funeral”).
.
After giving her acceptance speech, Anocha told the press she hoped her win would inspire young female filmmakers.
.
“We should cross the boundaries of gender. Men, women and the third gender all have a chance to win the award. Don’t let your gender be an obstacle to reaching your dreams,” said the director, who spent seven years working on the project.
.
Speaking with XP at the film’s premiere at the Locarno Film Festival last year, Anocha described the film as being about politics, memories and cinema. The narrative starts with a female film director,
who wants to learn more about the Thai student movement in 1976 so she interviews a well-known female writer who was part of the movement. The film then goes back in time before bringing the audience back to present to meet the other characters and witness their struggles in modern society.
.
The director also thanked her family for giving her the freedom to do what she loves. “I want to dedicate this win to those who fight for the liberty of thought and expression,” Anocha said.
Action drama film “Khun Phan” swept the most awards, picking up best supporting actor for Krisada Sukosol Clapp, best visual effects, best costume design and best makeup effects.

Thailand - Hollywood star Steven Seagal pays respect to late King Bhumibol

.
Hollywood martial artist and director Steven Seagal met with PM Prayuth Chan-ocha and paid respect to the portrait of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej at Government House his morning.
.
Seagal, who is planning to shoot his next action movie "Attrition" in Thailand, expressed his condolences to Thailand for its loss and said he was moved by the late HM the King's hard work, according to Bangkok Post journalist Wassana Nanuam.
.
Seagal is best known for his actions movies, where he shows off a near-mastery of the Japanese martial art of Aikido, but he has also studied Muay Thai.
.
He noted that he has admired the work of the late king, who worked tirelessly to bring his citizens a better life. Seagal is a longtime practicing Buddhist.
.
Seagal said the movie “Attrition” was inspired by the U.S. government moving Thailand to Tier 3, the worst possible ranking for the trafficking of people in 2014. Therefore, Seagal said the lead character in his new film will hunt down a human trafficking ring with the Thai police.
.
Well, that's typical Seagal.
.
Thailand was moved to a Tier 2 ranking, which is slightly better, this past June.
.
Thai officials will facilitate Seagal in the filming of “Attrition,” which will reportedly take place in Chiang Mai, Bangkok and some of the Southern provinces.
.
Seagal is hoping to incorporate Muay Thai fighters into his movie, which will be released next year.
.
Seagal has shot several movies in Southeast Asia. In 2003, his action flick “Belly of the Beast” was shot in Thailand where Thai actress Sara Malakul Lane played his daughter.
