Hottest Travel News around Thailand

Fire in the sky

The skies above Thailand's best beach holiday destination will be ablaze with colour on November 27 and 28 as the Pattaya International Fireworks Festival returns to town. This year's extravaganza is spread over two days with each country offering a foretaste of what they have to offer on day one and rounding off the event with a full 45-minute performance the next day. Visitors will be amazed at the fierce competition between participating countries determined to win the best firework show crown. Other activities include parades, live music, concerts and traditional and contemporary dance.

Pedal to save

Krungthai Card (KTC) celebrates the upcoming festive season with a cycling map it's dubbing the "KTC Bike Fun Food in 14 Provinces". The map, which can be used as a guide for travellers, includes lists of various well-known restaurants, resorts and hotels and tourist attractions, all offering KTC members special discounts. Among the destinations are Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Khon Kaen, Surat Thani, and Phuket.

 Quest for history

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is organising what, at more than 25,000 kilometres, is probably the longest overland trip ever made to discover the origins of the Thai people. The 40-car caravan will travel from the Altai mountain range in Central Asia to Bangkok via Xinjiang, Sichuan, Yunnan and Chiang Rai. Historians once surmised that Thais emigrated from the Altai region but this theory is now outdated, with the country made up of many groups of people who have been here since the beginning.

Two for tea
Okura Prestige Bangkok marks the arrival of the festive season with a special afternoon tea served daily from 2 to 5pm at Up & Above Bar on the hotel's 24th floor. The treats include Christmas stollen, home-made Okura festive macaroons, orange chocolate truffles, mini apple strudel and strawberry tarts as well as finely cut sandwiches and cranberry scones with jam and clotted cream. The Okura Prestige festive afternoon tea is priced at Bt960 per set inclusive of coffee or tea for two, and is available from December 1 to 31.
